Job Description

The Sales Training Director is a pivotal role that strategically translates franchise and brand strategies into a comprehensive annual training plan aimed at achieving patient and financial goals for the organization by implementing training programs that enhance the clinical, selling, and business acumen skills of sales professionals. The Director is instrumental in the growth and development of both direct and indirect reports, ensuring they are well-prepared for future roles of increased responsibility. Additionally, the Director is responsible for building a strong bench of talented candidates to fuel the training organization’s talent pipeline.

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Strategic Vision: Delivers short-and long-term strategic vision by proactively identifying, prioritizing, and responding to training needs within the organization to continuously improve the effectiveness of the sales teams.
  • Strategic Alignment: Collaborate with Marketing, Sales Leadership, and other internal business partners to design, develop, and direct the execution of training programs for the sales organization. Adapt training programs to meet evolving marketplace needs, customer requirements, and company objectives. Deliver these programs in conjunction with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Enterprise Leadership: Demonstrates enterprise-wide leadership by modeling fiscal responsibility, aligning training initiatives with company priorities, and ensuring the appropriate allocation of resources to maximize value and effectiveness. Cultivates ideas from outside the organization and backs up ideas with current industry trends and research to support new ways of thinking.
  • Team Development: Lead a team by ensuring success in current position while preparing for future positions of increased scope and responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, anticipating training staffing needs, leading through organizational changes, and succession planning for the training teams.
  • Inclusive Leadership: Fosters an inclusive environment by promoting diversity, encouraging open dialogue, and ensuring all team members feel valued and heard. Leads with empathy and understanding to drive engagement and collaboration across the organization.
  • Innovation & Change Management: Advocate for change and innovation with strong case for change fueled by data, insights, and leadership support with robust implementation plan. Works beyond functional silos to drive success for the broader organization.

Essential Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills; proficient in presenting to diverse executive audiences within and outside the organization.
  • Advanced planning and project management skills coupled with strong analytical abilities. Well-versed in sales and marketing strategies.
  • Effective listener who anticipates market or organizational challenges, delves into the ‘why’ behind issues, and proactively offers solutions that drive business results.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions that benefit the broader enterprise, which may include making unpopular decisions when necessary. Resilient and comfortable pushing back when needed for the greater good of AbbVie.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to leadership stakeholders with significant proactive influence in key business decisions. Seen as a leader who offers valuable business insights beyond the core therapeutic area.
