Primary Job Function
The Director, US Tx Strategic Pricing, will be responsible for calculating and articulating the financial impact of complex US pricing topics across the US Therapeutics business. This includes high-priority areas such as the Inflation Reduction Act and International Reference Pricing Impact. The role demands agility in responding to evolving market dynamics and healthcare policy changes.
The US healthcare landscape is undergoing unprecedented transformation, driven by regulatory shifts from governing bodies such as the FDA and CDC, as well as new government initiatives aimed at optimizing pharmaceutical costs for American patients. These changes are compelling pharmaceutical organizations to adapt their business practices and financial strategies, with significant implications not only in the US but also globally. In this environment, this position plays a critical role in clearly explaining the financial impact of complex issues to senior management, including the C-Suite.
In addition, the Director, US Tx Strategic Pricing, will be responsible for leading a high performing analytics team to support the dynamic needs of the various business stakeholders and initiatives that require pricing expertise.
This position reports to the Director, US Pricing / IRA.
Core Job Responsibilities:
IRA / Strategic Pricing
- Lead financial analytics and presentations associated with the impact of the Inflation Reduction Act across the entire US Therapeutics portfolio. This portfolio is comprised of ~ 15 key products with varying reimbursement types (Part B, Part D, 340B, Medicaid, Commercial) and access issues across a myriad of competitive therapeutic areas. This requires industry leading knowledge of unique Pricing topics and price types, including AMP, non-FAMP, ASP, BP, and MFP.
- Lead IRA discussions with senior management on an ad hoc basis, as well as during key planning cycles
- Finance lead in strategic discussions around IRA mitigation / revenue maximization with Business Unit Presidents for key brands
- Lead finance efforts to assemble data package submission for IRA negotiation selected products through collaboration with Ops Finance, R&D Finance, Tax, Alliance Management, and Corporate/
- Partner with Legal, Government Affairs, Market Access Business Insights and other functions in US Pricing to determine impact of changes in state and federal law (AMP Cap Repeal, IRA, federal and state 340B policy)
- Direct Pricing efforts to partner with Brand and Market Access Marketing to optimize revenue capture through exploring alternative pricing strategies.
- Support Price Forecasting Directors on an ad hoc basis as Pricing subject matter expert to assess brand performance and key finance risks / opportunities
Policy / Strategic Pricing
- Lead the assessment and quantification of financial impact resulting from evolving healthcare policies, including International Reference Pricing, US Legislative changes and including Prescription Drug Affordability Board requests.
- Anticipate and analyze implications of healthcare policy shifts from governing bodies (e.g., FDA, CDC) and new government initiatives (including Executive Orders), on pricing strategies and business practices.
- Develop and implement strategic recommendations to optimize pricing/sales impact in response to dynamic policy environments.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with cross-functional teams, including Market Access, BESD, IRA Strategy and Brand teams, to ensure alignment and effective execution of pricing strategies.
- Synthesize complex data and insights into clear, actionable reports for Business Evolution and Strategy Development CoE.
- Present findings and strategic recommendations to senior management, including C-Suite members, supporting evidence-based decision-making and long-term business planning.
- Drive continuous improvement by leveraging data analytics and scenario planning to inform both short-term and long-term strategy development including futureproof alternative solutions (data strategy & dynamic capabilities)
- Monitor global trends and best practices in healthcare policy and pricing to proactively identify opportunities and risks for the organization.
Leadership & Management of US Tx Pricing Analytics:
- Developing a high-performing team with strategic and operational responsibilities within US Pricing organization, through recruitment, development and retention of key talent
- Providing regular performance feedback, development planning and coaching direct reports
- Monitoring project progress, facilitates prioritization of team’s activities, manages workload, and ensures appropriate resource allocation, to meet critical deadlines under challenging time constraints
- Establish clear Ways of Working with Cross Functional Partners on Strategic Pricing initiatives and Pricing Governance to support decision making
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders and organizational leaders, in US Finance / Pricing, US Market Access Strategy, International Market Access and Pricing, Business Evolution & Strategy Development & IRA Strategy
