Job Category - Office Based Medical Affairs: Office Based Medical Affairs consists of physician leaders (PMALs), Medical Directors, Health Outcomes scientists, clinical scientists and associates that generate evidence, conduct scientific engagement and provide internal medical advice to stakeholders. Job Family - Medical Affairs: Medical Affairs ensures that the medical needs of customers are considered in all activities, consistent with GSK Values. Medical Affairs is responsible for Phase 3b and 4 evidence generation, external scientific engagement and internal medical advice on medicines and the marketplace from a medical perspective.
Job Purpose
The Head of Oncology TA Medical Affairs is a senior leadership role with responsibility for building and leading a world-class Oncology Medical Affairs function in Japan. The role provides overall leadership of medical activities across the Oncology portfolio, including leadership of Product Medical Leads, Medical Advisors and MSL functions.
Key objectives include:
Development and execution of Oncology medical strategy aligned with global and regional priorities
Robust integrated evidence planning in collaboration with Regulatory, Development and Health Outcomes partners
Excellence in scientific engagement with oncology and hematology experts
Strong medical governance and compliance oversight for Oncology-focused activities
Leadership by example in science, technology and culture
Key Responsibilities
Accountable for development and execution of the Oncology Therapeutic Area Medical Strategy in partnership with Global and Regional Medical Affairs
Lead and develop high-performing Oncology medical teams, including Product Medical Leads, Medical Advisors and MSLs
Drive high-quality external scientific engagement with key oncology and hematology stakeholders
Provide strategic medical input into lifecycle management, launches and post-launch activities
Ensure compliance with GSK governance, JPMA codes, MHLW regulations and GCP requirements
Act as a senior leader within the Japan Medical Affairs Leadership Team
Basic Qualifications
Skills
Strong strategic and business acumen with the ability to translate scientific data into medical strategy Proven people leadership and matrix leadership capabilities
Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills
Results-oriented mindset with high ethical standards and integrity
Deep understanding of pharmaceutical governance and compliance in Japan
Experience
Significant experience in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical industry
Demonstrated leadership of Oncology Medical Affairs teams or functions
Strong experience in Oncology and/or Hematology therapeutic areas
Experience supporting oncology product launches and evidence generation activities
Solid understanding of the Japanese healthcare environment and market access considerations
Education / Certification
MD, PhD or equivalent advanced scientific degree
Preferred Qualifications
Board-certified Medical Oncologist and/or Hematologist
Clinical practice experience in oncology or hematology
Prior experience in global or regional Oncology Medical Affairs leadership roles
Experience working on both solid tumors and hematologic malignancies
Fluency in Japanese and English
