Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, Member Growth, Channels, this engineer will enhance and scale the backend systems powering the features that improve how members discover and engage with care. This role is part of the Member Growth team and is instrumental in delivering intuitive, reliable user experiences at scale.

Please note that this is a hybrid role based in New York City with an expectation to be in office 2-3 days a week. Our office is located at 60 Madison Avenue.

What you’ll do:

  • Design and build scalable backend services using Ruby on Rails, Python, GraphQL, SQL
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ship high-impact features that improve member growth
  • Expand and maintain existing member growth infrastructure
  • Debug and resolve issues quickly and efficiently
  • Contribute to architectural discussions, code reviews, and tech debt prioritization
  • Advocate for high engineering standards, including test coverage, documentation, and observability
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support system reliability and respond to production issues
  • Collaborate flexibly across time zones, as needed, to support distributed teams and stakeholder
  • Build and maintain integrations with data warehouses or external APIs
  • Troubleshoot data discrepancies and work with cross-functional teams to resolve issues

What success looks like:

  • Deliver projects on time, within scope, and with high stakeholder satisfaction
  • Maintain high system uptime and low defect rates through strong testing and observability practices
  • Partner effectively with product, design, data, or other teams, contributing meaningfully to team goals and alignment
  • Complete tasks independently, resolve issues proactively, and accurately track personal work
  • Contribute to improved team velocity through planning, estimation, and delivery best practices
  • Continuously seek out new technologies or practices to improve engineering outcomes

What you’ll bring:

  • 3-5 years of experience in software development with a focus on backend development
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Ruby on Rails, Python, Java, C#, or equivalent
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
  • Experience working in cross-functional Agile teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with observability and experimentation tools such as: Datadog, LaunchDarkly, Sentry, Mixpanel, Iterable
  • Experience with containerization or cloud infrastructure tools like Docker or AWS
  • Experience designing and maintaining GraphQL APIs
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and experience working with databases such as PostgreSQL or Snowflake]
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot data discrepancies and identify root causes

The target base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $153,830, and is part of a competitive total rewards package including stock options and benefits. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We review all employee pay and compensation programs annually using Radford Global Compensation Database at minimum to ensure competitive and fair pay.
