Job Description

About us

Pomelo Care is the national leader in evidence-based healthcare for women and children. We deliver personalized, high-quality clinical interventions from reproductive care and pregnancy, infant care and pediatrics, to hormonal health through perimenopause and menopause, with long-term preventive care and condition management. Our model delivers 24/7 multispecialty care to address the medical, behavioral, and social factors that most significantly impact outcomes for women and children. We partner with payers, employers, and providers to expand access to quality healthcare across the system.

Our engineering team is the engine behind our virtual care platform, building AI-powered solutions that transform care delivery and create exceptional experiences for both patients and clinicians. If you're passionate about using technology to do real, tangible good in the world, we'd love to meet you.

We are a remote-first company with offices in New York and San Francisco. Our New York office has a strong in-person culture with regular collaboration, and our San Francisco office is available for those who enjoy working together in person.

Why This Role Matters

Everything we do at Pomelo starts with the patient. If patients aren't engaged, connected, and supported from day one, none of our clinical interventions matter. The Patient Experience team owns the surface area where patients interact with Pomelo: the mobile app, the web experience, enrollment flows, and the features that keep people coming back. You'll build things that patients actually use every day during some of the most important moments of their lives.

What You'll Do

  • Build and prototype full-stack features in our patient mobile and web apps, working closely with design and product to ship things patients love
  • Shape how patients experience Pomelo from their very first interaction, making enrollment and early engagement feel seamless and personal
  • Craft accessible, polished user experiences that work for all of our patients, including those who may not be tech-savvy
  • Take ownership of large product areas end-to-end, from technical design through shipping and iteration
  • Sit at the intersection of product, design, and clinical care, turning real patient needs into features that improve outcomes

Problems You'll Dig Into

  • How do we get patients proactively engaged in their own care?
  • How do we personalize the patient experience to specific needs and interests while meaningfully moving outcomes?
  • How do we build habits so that patients check in with us first when problems come up during their pregnancy?
  • How do we keep patients engaged without always requiring direct clinical intervention?

Tech Stack

Expo + React Native, React, TypeScript, Kotlin, SQL

Who You Are

  • You have a strong foundation in computer science, typically from a bachelor's or master's degree, or equivalent professional experience
  • You have experience building and shipping high-quality software using languages like Java, Kotlin, Python, TypeScript, or similar
  • You have experience developing applications with modern front-end frameworks like React
  • You care about crafting great user experiences and sweat the details that make a product feel polished
  • You're keeping up with trends in LLM coding agents to multiply your engineering impact
  • You enjoy tackling complex problems and avoid unnecessary complexity

We'll be especially excited if you:

  • Have experience with React Native or cross-platform mobile development
  • Have worked on consumer products where engagement and retention were key metrics
  • Have prior experience in AI/ML, natural language processing, or building agent-based systems
  • Have previously worked in a fast-paced, product-oriented environment

Why You Should Join

By joining Pomelo, you will help shape the future of a fast-moving, well-funded, and mission-driven startup that always puts the patient first. You will learn, grow, and be challenged, and have fun with your team while doing it. We strive to create an environment where employees from all backgrounds are respected. We also offer:

  • Competitive healthcare benefits
  • Generous equity compensation
  • Unlimited vacation
  • Membership in the First Round Network (a curated and confidential community with events, guides, thousands of Q&A questions, and opportunities for 1-1 mentorship)

At Pomelo, we are committed to hiring the best team to improve outcomes for all mothers and babies, regardless of their background. We need diverse perspectives to reflect the diversity of problems we face and the population we serve. We look to hire people from a variety of backgrounds, including but not limited to race, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, national origin, religion, disability, and veteran status.

Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our company’s size and industry, and are one part of the total compensation package that also includes equity, benefits, and other opportunities at Pomelo Care. In accordance with New York City, Colorado, California, and other applicable laws, Pomelo Care is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. Individual pay decisions are ultimately based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, geography, and balancing internal equity. Given that this role is open to candidates of different skill levels, determining a salary range is challenging. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $160,000 to $220,000. We expect most candidates to fall in the middle of the range.
