AbbVie’s Pipeline & Commercialization Strategy (PCS) organization oversees the strategic marketing direction for key assets in AbbVie’s R&D pipeline. The PCS Forecasting team develops the forecasts that provide the foundation for AbbVie’s strategic decision-making and help lay the groundwork for optimized R&D investment and Commercial execution. The Director, Global Pipeline Forecasting is accountable for the quality, development, and delivery of pipeline forecasts across all of AbbVie’s therapeutic areas in alignment with corporate requirements. This individual partners closely with senior PCS commercial and forecasting leadership within each therapeutic area to ensure successful delivery, and works with the Head, Strategic forecasting to establish and implement organizational forecasting best practices in PCS.
Reporting to this role are the PCS Therapeutic Area Forecasting directors accountable for AbbVie’s pipeline forecasts. Currently, there are three Therapeutic Area PCS Forecasting Directors: one each for Immunology and Oncology, and one covering Neuroscience/Eye Care and Specialty.
This role reports to AbbVie’s Head of Strategic Forecasting & Capabilities.
Core deliverables of the PCS Forecasting team include:
- Corporate LRP (Long-Range Plan): Partner with PCS therapeutic area commercial teams to develop a long-term financial forecasts for development programs. Work with global financial organization to ensure compliance with corporate guidance and timelines.
- R&D Plan Portfolio: Assess the financial potential of newly-proposed R&D programs (new assets and/or additional indications for existing assets) to support AbbVie’s R&D organization in investment planning. Work with cross-functional partners in commercial, analytics, and R&D to prioritize programs for future development.
- Governance: Build revenue forecasts and conduct financial assessments based on emerging clinical data at key program milestones (e.g. go-to-Phase 2/3) to inform organizational go/no-go decisions.
- Strategic financial analysis: Work with TA commercial teams, Therapeutic Area Steering Committees (TASCs), Asset Strategy Teams (ASTs), and other partners to support strategic decision making. Types of analysis include development of Disease Area Strategies, go-to-market indication sequencing, therapeutic area market landscape assessments, etc.
Job responsibilities of the Director, Global Pipeline Forecasting include but are not limited to:
- Serve as a thought partner for senior PCS therapeutic area leadership providing timely, data-driven insights and analysis in support of strategic pipeline decisions
- Work with partners across Strategic Forecasting to identify and implement forecasting best practices within PCS that align with overall organizational vision
- Develop cross-TA analytical forecasting insights and present total pipeline content in key organizational meetings, e.g. LRP reviews
- Oversee the work of PCS therapeutic area teams and ensure high quality delivery aligned with organizational / corporate process guidelines.
- Oversee operational aspects of the forecasting process including coordination of appropriate forecast inputs, reviews, alignment discussions, and data submissions.
- Oversee forecasting and analytics support for commercial strategic initiatives across all AbbVie therapeutic areas.
- Ensure appropriate coordination and partnership across all PCS TA teams with cross-functional organizational partners to ensure alignment on key assumptions and deliverables. Partners include R&D, Decision Sciences, HEOR, Global Epidemiology, Market Access & Pricing, PCS Finance, on-market commercial forecasting and finance (GMCO and US), Marketing Analytics and Business Intelligence (MABI), and on-market commercial teams (US, GMCO, and areas/affiliates as appropriate).
- Support the identification, cultivation, and ongoing development of organizational forecasting talent through coaching, internal and external training programs, career path development, etc.
- Drive continuous improvement in PCS forecasting in forecasting techniques/methodologies, utilization of data, tools/technology, etc.
