The Position

Roche’s Clinical Development organization is structured by therapeutic area and is responsible for developing and executing the late development (Phase II – III) clinical strategies and plans that deliver medically-differentiated therapies that provide meaningful improvement to patients.

We are seeking a physician with a medical specialty in hematology or oncology who is interested in developing their skills in clinical development.

In this role, you will be an integral part of the Clinical Science Team, gaining hands-on experience in the drug development lifecycle.

The Opportunity

This is a one-year (12-month) immersive programme in late-stage clinical pharmaceutical research for early-career physicians. This is an entry-level opportunity for MDs looking to take their first step into the pharmaceutical industry. This position offers hands-on experience in drug development, direct involvement in the clinical development of therapeutic compounds in one of Roche’s late-stage development focus areas, and exposure to the full spectrum of late-stage research phases (PhII/PhIII).

The primary objective is to strengthen your clinical development skills to become a partner of choice for Roche, building a robust pipeline of future clinical and scientific experts who will lead our mission in addressing high-unmet medical needs. You will work closely with Clinical Operations, Clinical Safety, Biostatistics and Regulatory teams, integrating into an active program at Roche, and gaining new industry-specific skills.

In addition, you will: 

  • You will support the development and/or implementation of the Clinical Development Plan (CDP) for assigned molecule(s)/indication(s); gathering and analyzing data and information necessary to create the CD plan.

  • You will collaborate with a variety of internal/external partners & stakeholders, as well as multidisciplinary internal groups, including business development, research, commercial, legal, etc.

  • You may participate in meetings, reviews, discussions and other interactions regarding early development/Phase I studies to provide clinical science input & guidance; including reviewing and providing late stage input to Phase I & II protocols.

  • You may take a role with other CST members, regulatory and other internal partners/stakeholders in the completion and submission of regulatory filings and other regulatory documentation. Provides clinical science information and input for regulatory submissions and other regulatory processes. Includes developing label and packaging language, etc.

Who you are

This program demands a strong work ethic, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to operate effectively and collaboratively within complex, multidisciplinary global teams. MDs must be prepared to present their findings regularly to senior leaders and act as future ambassadors for the program.

You will bring the following:

  • Degree in Medicine (M.D., MBBS, or equivalent)

  • Board certification in oncology or hematology 

  • Early-career physicians, in their first years of clinical practice experience following medical specialization.

  • Prior clinical development experience is preferred but not required

  • Ability to work and have all correspondence (verbal and written) in English

  • Team player with good communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in lung cancer or in coagulation disorders is strongly desired.

This is a temporary 12-month position located in Basel, and relocation benefits are not available for this posting.
