Position Summary

At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are advancing next-generation therapies while strengthening the operational systems that enable speed, quality, and disciplined execution across our global network.

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Governance & Portfolio Operations to help operationalize enterprise governance through process rigor, automation, and integrated data. This role partners closely with the Governance and Portfolio Operations team to enable governance forums with automated workflows, consolidated reporting, and clear operational cadence.

The ideal candidate operates at the intersection of process, data, and automation — translating governance objectives into scalable solutions using Power Automate and SharePoint, integrating multiple data sources, driving adoption of standardized operating practices across a global matrix organization, and/or acting as SME for portfolio processes, systems, and tools.

Core Responsibilities

This role will primarily support one focus area (Governance or Portfolio) and serve as backup for the other.

Governance:

  • Own the design, implementation, and ongoing operation of governance automation workflows (intake, routing, action tracking, notifications, reporting).
  • Implement governance automation workflows using Power Automate (or comparable platforms).
  • Develop SharePoint‑based solutions (lists, libraries, structured data models, permissions, collaboration spaces) to support governance execution.
  • Integrate and validate data from multiple systems (SharePoint, Power BI datasets, operational systems, Excel) into consolidated governance dashboards/outputs.
  • Design resilient governance automation solutions with basic error handling and logging.
  • Independently translate high‑level governance objectives into automated solutions with minimal oversight.
  • Maintain an integrated view of governance workflows, including process models, decision flows, and operational handoffs.
  • Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and automation opportunities in governance processes.
  • Recommend improvements to streamline execution and reduce manual coordination.
  • Support adoption through documentation, training, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Create training materials and user guides for governance tools, automated workflows, and reporting.
  • Develop onboarding content to enable consistent adoption of governance processes and platforms.
  • Build and maintain dashboards that provide visibility into governance performance.
  • Translate governance data into actionable insights for business leaders.

Portfolio:

  • Ensure effective utilization of strategic portfolio management software (OnePlan/GPSiPlan).
  • Provide expert guidance and support to end users; collect user feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to revise and enhance documentation and training materials for the portfolio system.
  • Manage and prioritize Power BI reporting demand related to our strategic portfolio management software to ensure support is allocated where it adds the most value.
  • Collect and manage system enhancement requests, coordinating with end users during deployment.
  • Assist in coordination and facilitation of the annual portfolio planning (strategic portfolio management) process.
  • Ensure a consistent cycle of lessons learned and continuous improvement for portfolio processes, focused on simplification and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the GPS ecosystem, functional PMOs, and stakeholders to align portfolio processes with best practices and strategic priorities.
  • Assist in building future‑state portfolio processes and system solutions as needed.

Required Skills & Experience

This role will primarily support one focus area (Governance or Portfolio) and serve as backup for the other. The technical skills required for the primary focus area will be prioritized when reviewing candidates.

General:

  • Proven experience in navigating complex matrix organizations; leading without direct authority.
  • Ability to think strategically and demonstrate initiative with a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong process analysis and critical thinking skills with an execution mindset.
  • Ability to receive and prioritize conflicting feedback.

Governance:

  • Firsthand experience implementing production workflows using Power Automate or similar automation platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of SharePoint (lists, libraries, permissions, structured data models, Power Platform integration), Power Automate, Power BI, and broader Microsoft 365 tools (e.g., Teams, Excel, Forms).
  • Experience integrating multiple data sources into consolidated reports or dashboards.
  • Experience building operational dashboards (Power BI or similar).
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams in a global matrix environment.
  • Exposure to process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) is a plus)
  • Comfort interpreting technical requirements (SQL/Python familiarity preferred) and translating for business users.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, Business, Life Sciences, Data Science, or related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in operations, supply chain, manufacturing or data-enabled business roles.

Portfolio:

  • Experience with OnePlan system (internally referred to as GPSiPlan) or similar portfolio management software strongly preferred, at SME levels ideally.
  • 8+ years of experience in strategy, portfolio, or related roles (e.g., transformation, governance, data, PM).
  • Experience in user support, training, and documentation for digital applications and management systems, preferred.

If you come across a role that intrigues you but doesn’t perfectly line up with your resume, we encourage you to apply anyway. You could be one step away from work that will transform your life and career.
