The Position

Data Engineer Intern Position Overview

• Location: Shanghai, China (Onsite)
• Duration: 3–6 months (Minimum 3 days per week)
• Team: Roche China Data Management and Integration Platforms Product

We are looking for a passionate, tech-savvy Data Engineer Intern to join our team. In this role, you will be working alongside senior data engineers to build modern data pipelines, optimize data platforms or solutions, and handle real-world healthcare data at scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Pipeline Development: Assist in designing, building, and maintaining automated ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest and transform data from diverse sources into our data lake/data warehouse.
• Data Integration: Support the integration of internal platforms and third-party systems using APIs and messaging queues.
• Data Quality & Governance: Adopt Data governance framework to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security across platforms.
• Optimization: Use advanced AI tools to help monitor and optimize data processing jobs for better performance and cost-efficiency.
• Collaboration: Partner with Product Managers, Data Analysts, Data Engineers, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver clean, structured data products .

What We Are Looking For (Qualifications)

• Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a related engineering or economics field.
• Programming Skills: Solid foundational skills in Python or Java/Scala, with a strong command of SQL.
• Data Knowledge: Familiarity with data warehousing concepts, relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL), or NoSQL databases.
• The "Nice-to-Haves" (Pluses):
  • Experience with data warehouse technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks) or workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Alibaba Cloud).
  • Basic understanding of CI/CD concepts and Git.
• Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving skills, curiosity to learn new technologies quickly, and good communication skills (English and Mandarin).
