Engineering and Property Services is recruiting for a Director E&PS Department Head to lead the Project Delivery team located in Geel, Belgium. This role will report to the Sr. Director Project Management.

The Director will be the Geel Department Head within the Synthetics Project Delivery organization, providing strategic leadership to a team of Project Managers responsible for delivering critical initiatives, capital projects, and core compliance programs. This role is accountable for setting direction, enabling effective portfolio execution, and ensuring that project delivery is aligned with business priorities, organizational objectives, and regional or sector strategies. Through strong people leadership, governance, and stakeholder engagement, the Director ensures consistent delivery of high-impact projects across multiple business areas and geographies.

They will provide overall leadership, direction, and coordination for major capital design and construction projects within either the Innovative Medicines or Medtech sectors. This includes guiding project ideation, definition, planning, and execution, while ensuring projects adhere to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards. The role involves securing appropriate resources, leading partner relationships, and encouraging collaboration across cross-functional teams.

Given the global scope and complexity of Johnson & Johnson’s facilities—ranging from manufacturing sites and warehouses to offices and laboratories—the Director will employ extensive J&J knowledge and technical expertise to identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies. This individual will ensure that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory and quality standards, while supporting the organization’s broader strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead a department of Project Managers responsible for the full project lifecycle, from conception through closeout, ensuring projects deliver scope, quality, and safety standards on time and within budget.
• Supervise the multiple projects in the regional portfolio, ensuring consistent delivery and adherence to organizational standards.
• Provide proactive communication to stakeholders via Sponsor and Steerco updates, ensuring visibility and alignment across all levels.
• Coordinate project-related activities, including design, execution, and closeout, working closely with project controls leads, project managers, and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to resolve program conflicts and address potential issues proactively.
• Manage customer interactions, project portfolio delivery aligned with critical metrics, and contractor relationships to ensure seamless execution.
• Drive the implementation of standard methodologies and continuous improvement initiatives across projects and regions.
• Cultivate engagement with team members and promote a collaborative approach to project management.
• Identify, mentor, and prepare emerging leaders to ensure a strong leadership pipeline for the future.
• This position requires a strategic leader with excellent team member management skills, capable of coordinating sophisticated or multiple projects and delivering outstanding results across teams with varied strengths and regions.

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management from an accredited institution required
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft Project and PowerPoint required

Experience and Skills:

Required:

• A minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in engineering, project management, or manufacturing within regulated environments, with a strong emphasis on strategic oversight and alignment of efforts with organizational goals.
• Proven experience in people leadership, including leading, coaching, and developing teams to build capability, drive engagement, and deliver outcomes aligned with organizational goals.
• Strong portfolio management skills, including the ability to prioritize investments, balance resources, manage interdependencies, and align project execution with strategic business objectives.
• Demonstrated expertise in financial planning, budget management, and resource allocation, including development of business plans and financial forecasts.
• Manufacturing experience in Pharmaceutical-regulated environments, including design, startup, and operational phases.
• Strong leadership skills with a track record of guiding cross-functional and cross-regional teams, fostering collaboration, and getting results.
• Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements relevant to manufacturing and engineering operations.
• Familiarity with JNJ systems such as IDEA, FPX, and OneCSS

Preferred:

• Master’s Degree preferred
• Project Management Certification or Degree
• Familiar with Front-End Loading Best Practices.
• LEED AP certification is preferred

The anticipated base pay range for this position is:

€119 200,00 - €204 355,00
