The Institute of Human Biology (IHB) is a newly established research center in Basel, Switzerland, dedicated to advancing the understanding of disease biology through the use of human model systems. The institute fosters dynamic collaboration among biologists, engineers, and data scientists, bridging the gap between academic and pharmaceutical research. Closely associated with Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED), we partner with leading academic institutions both locally and globally to address grand challenges with bold, innovative science.
We are looking for a highly motivated and talented Genomics Analysis Data Scientist to work at the interface of exploratory academic research and process innovation in a leading Biopharma company. You will join the Institute of Human Biology (IHB), collaborating with scientists and engineers to design and implement computational pipelines and frameworks for the analysis of large-scale transcriptomic, genomic, epigenetic data from single-cell spatial and bulk sequencing experiments.
Your work will enable quantitative readouts from complex human model systems and directly support biological discovery. Working in a fast-paced research environment, you will contribute to the advancement of next-generation human model systems, analytical pipelines and open-source software tools used by the broader bioimaging community.
You have completed an M.S. and/or PhD in computational biology or a closely related field within the past 3 years.
Proficiency in Python & R and familiarity with relevant scientific and visualization frameworks
Proficiency in data analysis and statistical methods
Experience with modern software engineering tools and methods
Background in designing scalable solutions for high-performance computing or cloud environments is a plus
Prior training and/or experience in machine learning would be advantageous
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to a non-technical audience
Team player with the ability to also work independently and proactively
