Job purpose

As MU (Manufacturing Unit) Head Formulation & Rotavirus you will, 

  • Lead the Formulation and Rota Manufacturing Performance Unit in Belgium

  • Manage safe, high-quality, and efficient operations across formulation and associated activities

  • Work closely with site leaders, quality, engineering, supply chain, and technical teams to meet production plans and continuous improvement goals.

These responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Lead day-to-day formulation and rota operations to meet safety, quality, delivery, cost and capacity targets.

  • Set clear performance objectives and develop your team through coaching, talent planning and capability building.

  • Ensure compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices and site quality systems. Partner with Quality for timely resolution of deviations and CAPAs.

  • Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives to increase equipment effectiveness, reduce waste and improve lead times.

  • Oversee facility, equipment and maintenance planning. Coordinate changeovers, shutdowns and equipment validation with Engineering.

  • Manage budgets, forecasts and resource allocation to support production plans and site priorities.

  • Assess and control operational, equipment, subcontractor and emergency risks. Investigate EHS incidents promptly; and maintain strong governance with no safety compromise.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain a visible presence on the shop floor and promote a strong safety and biosafety culture.

  • Own production scheduling alignment with planning and supply chain to prevent line interruptions.

  • Ensure thorough handover and rota planning to sustain staffing levels, capability and compliance.

  • Lead cross-functional problem-solving for technical issues and product quality concerns.

  • Sponsor and deliver projects that improve capacity, reliability and cost performance.

  • Represent the Manufacturing Performance Unit in site governance and communicate performance to senior leadership.

Why You?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Life Sciences or equivalent experience

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Aseptic manufacturing operations, including at least 3 years leading formulation or similar production units

  • Proven experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment with GMP knowledge

  • Demonstrated people management experience with responsibility for frontline and supervisory teams

  • Strong operational and problem-solving skills, including experience with continuous improvement methods

  • Fluency in both French and English (both languages spoken and written)

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Master’s degree or higher in a relevant technical discipline

  • Experience in Vaccine or biologics formulation, adjuvant or secondary processing

  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma or similar improvement methodologies

  • Track record of managing capital projects, facility upgrades or equipment validation

  • Experience working in a unionized environment and handling stakeholder relations

  • Strong financial awareness, with experience managing budgets and delivering cost improvements

  • Fluency in the Dutch is a plus for this Belgium-based role

This role is on-site at our Belgium manufacturing site with hybrid flexibility for some office-based activities as agreed with the site leadership.
