Johnson & Johnson Surgical Vision is recruiting for a Purchasing Manager, located in Milpitas, California.

 

Role Overview:

The Purchasing Manager leads the daily execution and continuous improvement of purchasing operations for J&J Vision Surgical Equipment in Milpitas. This people-leader role develops a high-performing buying team, strengthens supplier performance, and ensures materials are available to support reliable production while maintaining quality, compliance, cost, and inventory expectations.

 

The Impact You Will Have:

Your leadership will directly influence continuity of supply and operational performance. By anticipating shortages, accelerating mitigation plans, improving supplier reliability, and strengthening purchasing controls, you will help protect production schedules and support the timely delivery of surgical technologies. You will partner with global suppliers and cross-functional leaders to solve complex, high-impact supply challenges. You will also shape team capability by setting clear priorities, coaching buyers, standardizing work, and using relevant indicators to turn risks into timely decisions and sustainable improvements. You will apply advance purchasing processes through Lean thinking, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily departmental operations and personnel while building and sustaining a high-performing team.
• Lead monthly S&OP reviews with strategic suppliers to align priorities, performance, and actions.
• Balance buyer workloads to ensure effective coverage and flexibility to support additional project needs.
• Standardize work practices and cross-train team members to strengthen capability and business continuity.
• Ensure supplier invoice discrepancies are resolved promptly to prevent credit holds.
• Track and escalate material shortages, ensuring timely mitigation plans are in place to prevent production disruptions.
• Lead root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage and improve purchasing KPIs, including supplier OTIF, raw material safety stock attainment, purchase order confirmations, invoice discrepancy resolution time, excess and obsolete inventory reduction, and RTS processing time.
• Ensure purchasing master data—including lead times, pricing, and order parameters—is accurate and maintained in the ERP system.

Establish and maintain effective supplier communication to foster strong, collaborative relationships.

 

 

 

Qualifications

Education:

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree and/or University degree required. MA/MBA is preferred.

 

Experience and Skills:

Required:

• A minimum of 5 years’  relevant work experience
• Advance experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred).
• Ability to develop, coach and lead a team of buyers and team leads in the execution, strategies and realization of departmental and company goals.
• Ability to communicate clearly, making the complex clear and compelling to all levels of the organization in both written & oral forms.
• Ability to drive & apply continuous process improvement tools and improvements to large and complex projects.
• Proficient user of MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint

 

Preferred:

• Experience with APO/SNP & Advanced Planning Systems (OMP).
• Ability to build strong collaborative teams and relationships, leading cross functional/ virtual teams where required.
• The ability to influence Director & VP Levels within the organization and in a matrix environment.
• Working knowledge of financial processes.
• Strong organization skills and an aptitude for planning with exceptional attention to detail
• Green Belt Six Sigma Certifications & Supply Chain Certification (APICS/ IBF)

• May require up to 10% domestic and/or international travel to other locations and sites

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$118,000.00 - $203,550.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).



This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.



Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation –120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child

Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year

Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days

Volunteer Leave – 32 hours per calendar year

Military Spouse Time-Off – 80 hours per calendar year
