Job Purpose

R&D Engineering Services (RDES) provides Facilities Management, Engineering and Capital Project services tailored to the needs of R&D across its technical sites within GSC’s Engineering and EHS organization.

This role will partner with R&D leadership, RDES operations management, and key Service Delivery Partners to drive transformation initiatives at the GSK Research and Development (R&D) site in Heidelberg, Germany. The site is located on the campus of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and offers a highly interdisciplinary scientific environment that enables technological innovation and helps translate research discoveries into meaningful scientific and business value for GSK.

In collaboration with R&D leadership, the Site Transformation Lead will develop a deep understanding of business strategies and priorities and map out clearly where there are gaps in operational effectiveness to support these. This role will be accountable to develop and deliver a site transformation plan that may include business process improvements, enhanced governance and culture and engagement initiatives in order to address identified pain points and embed long-term, sustainable change.

This role will foster a culture of transparency and trust with operations teams, service partners and customers.  There is a requirement to be present a minimum of 4 days on site per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with R&D and RDES leadership to define key success criteria for the transformation at Heidelberg. Develop and drive completion of a site transformation plan to improve ways of working and the effectiveness of RDES operations.
  • Obtain feedback from R&D Heidelberg and translate to measurable actions as part of the site transformation plan.
  • Roll-out strengthened site governance and cadence of meetings with key stakeholders.  Ensure actions and risks identified are followed through in a timely manner.
  • Agree and implement streamlined and effective communication flows and act as a point of escalation to RDES LT.
  • Work with broader RDES site leadership to understand and roll-out best practice as appropriate
  • Develop and support tracking of site performance dashboard.
  • Work with the site operations manager to ensure service partner performance is measured in line with agreed contract scope and metrics.  Inform service partner’s Voice of the Customer (VOC) scoring: ensure expectations are clear and share actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify culture and engagement initiatives to strengthen relationships that underpin long-term, sustainable change.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Specialization in Project Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or similar
  • 7+ years of experience managing operations and/or leading and supporting change initiatives in complex organizations
  • Experience preferably within an R&D environment
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills and the ability to drive multiple workstreams through to completion simultaneously
  • Ability to work cross-functionally across facilities operations, capital project delivery, engineering, tech, communications, and change enablement groups
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and persuasive communication skills
  • Ability to think and act strategically and engage in long-term planning
  • Strong customer focus, with dedication to understanding and meeting R&D customer needs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and German

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent
  • Specialization in Business Administration, Organisational Change, Operations Management, or similar
  • Experience in facilities management
  • Familiarity with change management methodologies
  • Knowledge of Research & Development in the pharmaceutical industry
Germany Salary Range / Gehaltsbandbreiten Deutschland: EUR 86,250 to EUR 143,750The annual gross base salary range for new hires in this position is listed above for each applicable location. These ranges take into account a number of factors including the candidate’s skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position may offer an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role.
