Job Description

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections,  where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

As a System Processes Expert (m/f/d), you are the driving force behind optimizing the complex interplay between analyzers and wet chemistry within our Serum Work Area (SWA) organization in Penzberg. Operating at the intersection of chemistry, physics, and engineering, you primarily define and develop the system processes that ensure our platforms deliver peak performance.

Join our dedicated team as Expert SWA Integration & Testing AU (f/m/d), take on the functional leadership of innovative R&D projects, and actively help shape the future of diagnostic systems!

Your New Team

You can expect an expert team of around 10 people, ranging from laboratory technicians to scientific staff. Our team is recognized for excellent solutions in the Serum Work Area (SWA) and ensures a stable supply of high-quality system reagents across all technologies. Through outstanding product maintenance and the smart leverage of synergies, we continuously enhance the performance of our diagnostic systems.

The Opportunity | What Awaits You

  • Process Development: You are the central authority for instrument-side system processes. This includes defining wash cycles, optimizing fluidics, and managing standby procedures. You solve complex system-level challenges in close cooperation with our hardware and software partners.
  • Functional Leadership: You provide functional leadership to an R&D team within a matrix structure, guide employees on a task-related basis, design experimental plans, and specifically foster technical know-how.
  • Project Management: You plan, lead, and monitor complex, global, and cross-functional R&D projects, coordinating all activities between R&D, Postmarket Quality, and global support teams.
  • Product Maintenance & Complaint Management: You independently handle internal and external product complaints regarding the analyzers, drive root-cause analysis, and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Decision Preparation: You prepare strategic decision-making by providing project-related information and interpreting product and project risks.
  • Documentation of Results: You analyze and interpret R&D results, present them to relevant committees, and are responsible for creating and reviewing test plans, development reports, and patent applications.

Who You Are

  • You are a visionary leader who combines scientific curiosity with technical depth and business acumen. You confidently navigate complex structures and inspire stakeholders toward common goals.
  • A successfully completed university degree and a PhD in a technical or scientific discipline (e.g., bioengineering, physics, mechatronics, or life sciences), combined with a strong passion for systems engineering, form the foundation of your expertise.
  • Several years of professional experience (preferably 3–5 years with a PhD) in system development, system integration, or verification & validation—ideally within the IVD (In Vitro Diagnostics) or MedTech industry.
  • You possess a deep understanding of the architecture of complex diagnostic systems (fluidics, mechanics, software interactions); practical experience with cobas platforms is an advantage.
  • You are characterized by the distinct ability to bridge the gap between "wet chemistry" and hardware/software, and to communicate effectively with specialists across all disciplines.
  • You bring strong scientific and analytical skills, excellent problem-solving competence, and proven experience in project management.
  • As a compelling team player, you have the ability to confidently provide functional leadership to cross-functional teams, delegate tasks effectively, and remain open to new ways of working.
  • You communicate and present confidently and effectively in both German and English, possess intercultural competence, and ideally have initial experience working with international partners (e.g., in Asia/Japan).
