Job Description

At AbbVie, our people are at the centre of everything we do. We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Workers Compensation & Wellbeing Lead to lead our injury management, rehabilitation and return-to-work strategy across Australia and New Zealand. Based in Mascot (relocating to Sydney CBD in Q4 2026), this role offers significant autonomy, strategic influence and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across a highly respected global biopharmaceutical organisation.

This is a unique opportunity, part time or full time depending on your preference, to own the end-to-end employee recovery journey, partnering with employees, leaders, insurers and rehabilitation providers to deliver positive health outcomes while reducing organisational risk. You will oversee Workers Compensation claims, injury management and return-to-work programs, ensuring employees receive the support they need to recover safely and sustainably.

Beyond injury management, you will play a key role in shaping AbbVie's wellbeing strategy, strengthening psychosocial risk capability and fostering a culture where safety, health and wellbeing are embedded into everyday leadership. Working closely with senior leaders, HR and external partners, you will use data and insights to influence decision-making, drive continuous improvement and help create a workplace where people can thrive.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Actively foster and lead a ‘safety first’ mindset among all employees through visible leadership, regular engagement and delivery of effective training tailored for office and field environments.
  • Lead the business’s capability in identifying, preventing and managing psychosocial risks; ensure mental and emotional wellbeing frameworks are embedded to mitigate risk.
  • Oversee the end-to-end worker health lifecycle including:
    • Implement proactive wellbeing and mental health initiatives
    • Manage incident prevention, immediate response, and deep-dive investigations (root case analysis) for both physical and psychological incidents
    • Coordinating all aspects of WorkCover claims and injury case management
    • Facilitating timely and positive Return to Work outcomes that prioritize holistic recovery
  • Independently identify and lead strategic projects focused on proactive wellbeing management, resilience-building initiatives and the physical safety of our staff
  • Maintain full compliance with local/state ANZ WHS legislation and company. Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for all environments, specifically including field activities and business-wide activities.
  • Develop, implement and maintain updated affiliate Crisis Management, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans; ensuring preparedness frameworks are regularly reviewed, tested and aligned with organisational risk priorities and regulatory expectations.
  • Advise the leadership team on holistic safety risk (including personal due diligence obligations), providing data-driven insights into both physical safety metrics and psychosocial health trends.
  • Provide hands-on WHS guidance across all departments, ensuring that office staff and field teams are appropriately trained and have direct access to expert assistance.
  • Report any adverse event within 24 hours as per AbbVie’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that adverse events are appropriately captured and forwarded to pharmacovigilance within required timeframes, and support AE reconciliation activities
  • Assist with the management of systems, relevant databases, workflow and documentation for the compassionate supply program to ensure required timelines are met
  • Proactively participate in AbbVie’s WHS programs, adhere to policies and promote a safe work environment at all times.
  • Adhere to AbbVie’s internal codes of conduct and compliance processes.
  • Other ad hoc duties such as administrative duties, as requested.
